Genesis 18:23-24 Then Abraham approached Him and said: “Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked? What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away and not sparethe place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it?
Friends have frequent, long and meaningful conversations with one another. Friendships grow deeper with regular meaningful clear communications. The 5 C’s of friendship are Communication, Consistency, Connection, Caring, and Commitment.
Our friendship with God starts with constant communication and grows with our sincerity and consistency. Our commitment to put Him first and above all is the key to building a trustworthy relationship with the Lord. God will not be able to share secrets with a person who is not reliable, committed and consistent in their consecration to Him.
The Lord God shared His plan to destroy the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to Abraham. Before executing justice, the Lord had come to visit Abraham and to put His feet up to have a heart-to-heart poignant conversation with him. Abraham knew the heartbeat of God. He knew that God was gracious and compassionate hence he appealed to save the despicable cities on behalf of his nephew Lot. He tried to mediate and mitigate the consequences of their loathsome transgressions and iniquities. The Lord God gave Abraham the assurance, “For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it.” When the Lord had finished speaking with Abraham, he left, and Abraham returned home (Genesis 18:32-33). After a long conversation, they came down from 50 righteous to 10.
Friendship with God:
- Conversations: Our friendship with the Lord grows deeper when we spend time in His presence – talking and listening to Him.
- Consistency: Our consistency in prayer and sincerity in following His precepts are the foundations to build a strong bond. Our consistency forms the basis of our reliability.
- Commitment: Our commitment to our prayer time is an expression of our love to Him. When our relationship becomes a fond friendship then, our prayer time is no more a chore but a delightful and ecstatic time of the day. A commitment to prayer, service and generosity without compromise blooms into an ardent friendship with the Lord.
Constant conversations, consistency and commitment make us God’s Best Friends.
Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, You are my delight and my desire. Amen.
