Numbers 12:6-8 “When there is a prophet among you, I, the Lord, reveal myself to them in visions, I speak to them in dreams. But this is not true of my servant Moses; he is faithful in all my house. With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles; he sees the form. With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles; he sees the form of the LORD. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant.”
Trustworthy and faithful friends are transparent with each other. They share their personal information without any hidden agenda or façade. Their conversations are not shady but straight forward without conundrums or confusions.
The Lord God, the Maker of the heavens and the earth had a close fellowship with Moses. He testified about His close heart-connection with Moses and arbitrated for him when Aaron and Miriam, the brother and sister of Moses slandered against him. The secret to Sovereign friendship was very simple. He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel (Psalm 103:7). Moses desired to know God and understand God’s will and God’s ways, but the people of Israel were only after the works and His miraculous wonder working power. Hence Moses found a place in the heart of God but the people whom the Lord redeemed, Israel, only received from the hand of God.
To become a friend of God we must know Him and find a place in His heart. If we seek the Lord only to get something, we will be opportunist like the Israelites. If our prayers are only about “give me a job”, “give me a house”, “heal me”, etc. we are only after His hand and not His heart.
Sovereign Friendship:
- Hand: Those who seek God for their needs and treat Him like a vending machine for their needs are only reaching for His hand.
- Head: Those who know about God but have not experienced His personal touch and leading have head knowledge. Heeding to His Word transforms the information in the head into reformation in the heart.
- Heart: Those who have a heart-connection earnestly seek to know God’s will and understand His ways.
Know His Ways and Do His Will.
Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, I want to reach for Your heart and not just Your hand. Amen.
