27 October 2026 – Friend of God – Part 6

Exodus 32:11&14 Then Moses pleaded with the Lord his God, and said: “Lord, why does Your wrath burn hot against Your people whom You have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand? So the Lord relented from the harm which He said He would do to His people.

Friends can take the liberty with each other to discuss personal decisions, principles and perspectives. Good friends talk through their emotions transparently and support each other. Best friends can talk about deep issues of the heart without reservations and still not be misunderstood.

Who can counsel the Lord? Is anyone wise enough to advise the Lord? Yet we see Moses pleading with the Lord for the rebellious and revelrous people of Israel who hurt the heart of God by their idolatry and lack of integrity. While Moses was on the mountain top for 40 days and 40 nights receiving the “Ten Commandments” and divine instructions, to lead the nation who had been delivered from captivity, the people went astray. They built a golden calf, offered sacrifice to it and sat down to eat, drink and party wildly. The defiance and disobedience made the fury of the Lord burn against them. The Lord God wanted to destroy the insolent and blot them out and make Moses a great nation. “Now leave me alone so that my anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them. Then I will make you into a great nation” (Exodus 32:10). Moses did not selfishly agree to see the destruction of the imprudent but he pleaded for their forgiveness and the Lord relented from the harm that He intended to do to His people!

God’s friends can stand in the gap to intercede for the rebellious, wayward and the disobedient and the Lord will be gracious to them.

Personal Fellowship and Friendship:

  1. Interact: Our closeness to the heart of God gives us access to interact with Him about crucial and critical matters.
  2. Intercede: Our proximity to the Compassionate God gives us the right to intercede on behalf of the calloused and wayward.
  3. Intervene: Our intimacy with the Lord enables us to intercede for our loved ones and our nations.

Closeness to the Lord gives us access to His heart.

Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, give me access to Your ear and heart. Amen.
