John 14:23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.
Kathryn Kuhlman (1907–1976), an American evangelist was widely known for her healing meetings but more so for her deep emphasis on carrying the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. Her intense awareness of the Holy Spirit through obedience, reverence, consecration, dependence, prayer, praise and surrender made her a vessel through which the power of God could be manifested. Her message would normally be summed up in this famous thought: “Make room for the Holy Spirit and let Him have His way”.
Jesus revealed a deep heart-secret to us while He lived on earth. The desire of the God of the heavens and the earth was to make our heart His home. He said, when we make room for Him through obedience, reverence, consecration, dependence, prayer, praise and surrender He will make His abode in us. When we confess Him without mouth and invite Him into our heart He resides in us. However, when we live passionately in reverential fear of God, He reveals Himself through us. Obedience pleases the heart of God. Implicit, unconditional, and complete obedience makes us vessels that carry His presence and channels through which His power can be manifested.
The grandson of Aaron, Phinehas, pleased the heart of God by his passionate obedience to the Word of God. Hence, he was not only commended by the Lord but the Lord God made a covenant of peace and a covenant of a lasting priesthood with him and his generation, because he was zealous to honour the Lord. The Lord said to Moses, 11 “Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, has turned my anger away from the Israelites. Since he was as zealous for my honor… (Numbers 25:10-11).
Obedience:
- Implicit: Implicit obedience will draw us into a covenant of peace with God. “Covenant of Peace” is God’s lavish grace and unlimited mercy
- Immediate: Obedience without questions or arguments makes room to host His presence.
- Integrous: Zeal and passion for God open the door to the “Covenant of Lasting Priesthood”—a ministry calling that will not be revoked.
Zealous obedience hosts the presence of the Lord.
Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, come into my heart and make it Your abode. Amen.
