Psalms 144:1 Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle.
Pick your battles. You don’t have to show up to every argument you’re invited to – Mandy Hale. God does not need our participation in all the battles, He only needs our presence. Godly wisdom will teach us the battles that we must passover, crossover or turnover. The fiercest battles are normally fought by the heavenly hosts and our participation will be silent spectators. In most battles, our part will be to gird ourselves with the armour of God and stand on our knees. Ephesians 6:13 “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” In most of the battles we face our active participation in the victory will be minimal. This is a secret that many don’t understand and trying to argue their point, knock on judicial doors or expect friends or family to defend and get thoroughly disappointed.
Our training ground for war is our prayer closet and the school of the Holy Spirit will equip us with the skill to use the sword, the Word of God. Psalms 18:39 “You armed me with strength for battle; you humbled my adversaries before me.” Our only involvement that is required in all the battles of life is prayer.
Few basics about battles before we delve into the battle strategies:
1. People: We will face battles with family, finance and friendships as long as we live in this earth. However, our battles are not with people but with the demonic forces in the dark spiritual realm. Ephesians 6:12 For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces. Hence we only condemn the actions of people who allow the dark forces to influence their behaviour but must continue to love, bless and pray for them. The fundamental principle of fighting our battles God’s way is fighting the demonic forces and not hating the people who are instrumental in hurting us.
2. Participation: In most battles, our participation is in prayer. Isaiah 35:3 Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way; say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will. It is when we face ferocious attacks from the enemy that we struggle to pray, but when we fail to pray we allow the enemy to advance in the battlefield. Prayer doesn’t cease when we finish our morning devotion. Prayer is a lifestyle. Keep the divine connection going throughout the day.
3. Purity: The fear of the Lord brings divine cloud of protection around us. Psalms 34:7 The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. In a battle our victory doesn’t just depend on God’s ability to overcome the enemy, (He is the Lord God Almighty) but hinges on our humility to walk in purity. We cannot curse the enemy in bitterness and expect God to defend for us. Righteousness is the horse that takes us across the line of victory.
We must learn to pick our battles prayerfully. The elementary philosophy to be victorious in the battles we face is to understand that our involvement in the battle is limited to our prayer closet. Prayer is the passive participation that activates the angelic penetration into the enemy’s camp to defeat the demonic. Wait on the Lord before jumping into the battlefield.
2 Thessalonians 3:5 But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.
