08 August 2022 – The Thief – Part 2

John 8:44b He(devil) was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

When Satan cannot get a great sin in, he will let a little one in. Like the thief who goes and finds shutters all coated with iron and bolted inside. At last, he sees a little window in a chamber – Charles Spurgeon.  Jesus testified that the devil is a murderer and a liar. He is the father of lies and his mother-tongue is ‘lies’.

Some of his repeated lies are “There is no God”. “How can a good God send frail failing people to hell?” “God can never love you”. “God cannot dwell among the flaccid and faulty people”. “You are too marred and broken for God to redeem you”.  He ludicrously fools the church to preach ‘politically-right-sermons’ and lures them into lukewarm worship. “I do not think the devil cares how many churches you build, if only you have lukewarm preachers and people in them” – Charles Spurgeon. The devil fictitiously morphs the church into entertainment theatres rather than enlightening coliseums that reverberates truth, love, and justice. He does this by twisting or spinning the truth.

Dr. David Jeremiah in his book, “Overcoming Falsehood with Truth” describes ‘lies’ as ‘spin’. Spin is the recasting or revising of the truth to make it more palatable. The point is not to be truthful but to reinterpret facts to take the edge of the truth to make it more politically correct and less offensive. Spinning is the act of twirling something. It has been the strategy of the devil to twist the truth by emphasizing part of the facts and masking the truth.

Three alert points:

1.     Depravity: A lie that has tricked people over and over again is about their weakness. The devil screams in their ears that they were born sexually, emotionally, or mentally deformed/broken and that they were wired to live double or duped life”. Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people (Ephesians 5:3). God does not wink at depravity and excuse it as a mere human weakness.

2.     Deception: Reiterating and repeating part of the truth is still a lie. The strategy of the devil is not to hide the truth but just part of the truth. He even tried this with Jesus when he tempted Him in the wilderness. He started his question with an ‘if’, in order to push Jesus to prove His identity. “If you are the Son of God”. The ‘if’ question from the demons is to craftily suck us into sin.

3.     Deserted: In the middle of a crisis or a conundrum the demons will whisper in our ears, “If the Lord is with you why is this happening to you”? (Judges 6:13). If the devil never roars, the Church will never sing! – Charles Spurgeon. God will never leave, desert or forsake us no matter where we find ourselves.

Lies is the native language of the devil.

2 Thessalonians 2:3a Let no one deceive you in any way.

Prayer: God of Truth, I dedicate/rededicate my tongue to speak the truth and the full truth; may streams of living water flow from my mouth. Amen.
