09 September 2023 – Stay Young – Part 7

Psalm 92:13-14 The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green

Date palm trees live for 100 to 120 years and produce 70–140 kilograms of dates, but the quality and quantity slows down as it gets older. However the righteous or God’s children remain green and verdant and will be fruitful until they exit the earth. Likewise cedars of Lebanon are known for their longevity. It is important to mature and age gracefully as well as to flourish and continue to be fruitful and remain useful to the kingdom of God. We never retire from bearing fruits.

Gerascophobia is a fear of aging. It is an unpleasant emotion (fear) that occurs in response to a source of danger, whether real or imaginary, and has cognitive, behavioral, and physiological components. Statistics say that about 87% of the people have the fear of growing old. However, the Bible teaches us that Old age is a crown of dignity, when it is found in the ways of justice (Proverbs 16:31). Hence maturing and advancing in age should make us dignified and not petrified.

Anna was an 84 year old prophetess who was widowed in seven years. She did not get bitter with God about the tragic loss of her husband but remained in the temple of God worshipping, fasting and praying. Prayer warriors never grow old. She stuck around until 84 to hold baby Jesus in her hands and bless Him. Luke 2:36–38 There was also a prophet, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying.

Maturity is not marked with our age but with our praying, fasting and worship. Becoming like Jesus and radiating the love of Jesus is the mark of maturity and age.

Worshippers never grow old; they are matured, juicy and fruity:

1.     Fast: We don’t stop fasting as we grow in age. Those who fast intermittently are very unlikely to get diabetes, high cholesterol or heart related disease. Moses was well above 80 years when he fasted for 40 days.

2.     Pray: Pray without ceasing. I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people (1 Timothy 2:1). Pray about everything and pray into your future. Pray for the generation which your physical eyes will not even see. Let your prayers outlive you.

3.     Worship: Be a worshipper. Worship fills our heart and mind with joy and peace. Worship is the anti-aging pill of the soul.

Prayer warriors never get old, they age gracefully but remain green, verdant and fruitful throughout their life.  Worship is the best anti-aging pill of the soul.

Proverbs 16:31 Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained in a righteous life.

Prayer: Father in Heaven, I will chew on the anti-aging pill of worship, mature through the challenges and crisis of life. Holy Spirit, redirect my heart to worship when I start worrying. Amen.
