Jeremiah 1:10 See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.”
“Words have the power to shape the world inside us and around us.”
Words can create and kill, root and uproot, build and break, bind and destroy. Words have the power to shape our thoughts, words and actions. Words are influential. Words have the power and energy to make a profound impact on the human mind. Words and emotions are interconnected to the brain. This is why hearing about a tragedy automatically brings tears to the eyes. Positive and affirmative words can enlighten and enthuse but negative and pessimistic words have the power to depress and destroy. Negative words fall like poisonous seeds in the mind and start sprouting toxic thoughts. If pessimism is fostered, it builds a stronghold of fear and dread. Destructive words can destroy dreams. “Big dreams can be shot down by small people, silly comments and criticisms.” Hence it is crucially important to both speak as well as listen to words that build our courage, dreams and visions. Words shape us inside out.
Words that are spoken over us or words that we speak have a profound impact in shaping our lives. The woman who was in depression for decades was delivered by the prophetical and positive words of the High Priest Eli. Eli answered, “Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him” (1 Samuel 1:17). Words have the power to build or to break. Hannah was broken by the prodding of Peninnah, her husband’s second wife. Peninnah goaded her with insults which pushed Hannah into depression. But a positive affirmation from Eli lightened Hannah’s burden and brightened up her floundering soul. The words of Eli sunk deep into Hannah and shaped her future.
Bridle your tongue from negativity:
1. Moods: Words control our moods. What we tell ourselves is who we will become. Shoot down the negative thoughts about yourself and talk to yourself as you brush your teeth every morning. Call yourself “anointed, blessed, chosen, influential and victorious”. People and situations don’t set our moods. We do, with our words and thoughts.
2. Motivate: Words motivate us to perform, excel and grow. The best motivator to boost your morale is ‘you’. Words of others can impact but our own inner voice of affirmation is the silent motivator throughout the day. Say something nice about yourself today.
3. Mantle: Words are the invisible mantle on us. We are who we think and say we are. If we look at ourselves as influencers who shape the world, we will become one. Shape your day, time and future with your words. Positive confession over yourself every day will shape your future.
Words have the power to shape our world inside out. So, bridle your tongue to shape your future with God’s promises and positive words.
Proverbs 12:18 “There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”
Prayer: Divine Father, teach me the power of the words. Help me to speak positively and prophetically to others and myself. Amen.
