Isaiah 53:3 “He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem”.
Jesus suffered the ultimate rejection on the cross. He was shunned, shamed and suffered the agonizing pain of rejection. Not only was His body broken but the more severe suffering was the brokenness of His spirit. But a wounded broken-spirit who can bear? (Proverbs 18:14). Rejection breaks the spirit of a man and a broken-spirit causes depression. Medicating depression with tranquilizers only puts the suffering soul to rest temporarily. Jesus was rejected so that we can be accepted in the presence of the Lord.
The blood of Jesus and the price that He paid on the cross has the power to redeem all and any of our transgression, iniquities and curses. Jesus cried, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? (Matthew 27:46), as the pain of rejection was too heavy to bear. But He endured the agony for you and for me.
Rejection from a friend, spouse, children, sibling, family member, friendship group, church or a position of authority, causes the same pain of being slapped and slit with a sword. Just as the body bleeds, our soul bleeds as well. If a wound is left unattended it will fester and become infected. Similarly, if the bleeding heart is left unattended it would be infested with low self-esteem, insecurity and depression.
Your father, friend or fiancé may reject you but you have been accepted by Jesus. He has made us accepted in the beloved (Ephesians 1:6). While rejection is not easy to handle, it turns our attention to a love that cannot be compared to any worldly relationship – the love of Jesus. The antidote to rejection is the Word of God. Meditate on the Word and medicate rejection.
Redemption through rejection:
- Accepted: Remove the sting of rejection by acknowledging that you have been accepted by the King of Kings.
- Accredited: We have been accredited as His son/daughter.
- Awarded: The Lord will award us a crown of beauty instead of the ashes of rejection. So, surrender the ashes to Him.
Jesus was rejected to redeem us from depression.
Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, help me out of the pit of rejection. Amen.
