John 12:24 Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.
“Seeds are God’s biological design for plant reproduction, survival, and propagation.”
Once a seed is planted in the ground it’s outer shell breaks for the roots and shoots to grow. This process is called “dying” of the seed but the death is not destruction but reconstruction of the seed into a sampling and a plant. This biological process of a seed dying to transform from its original form in order to grow into a tree and eventually produce many seeds is a perfect metaphor of a life of a Christian to die to self and transform into the image of Christ Jesus.
The first thing that happens to a seed when it is sowed in the ground is the process of breaking. The outer coat of the seed breaks as it absorbs water. The moisture converts the proteins stored in the seed into usable sugar. The embryo of the seed then consumes the nutrients and pushes the roots into the soil and the shoots towards sunlight. The original hull of the seed is completely consumed and transformed.
As a child of God consumes the Living Word of God, it breaks the outer hull of our pride, prejudice and innate personality. The Word of God transforms our inner man and grows the roots of trust, confidence and self-worth in Christ Jesus. The roots of identity in Christ will reform the way we think and talk. There will be a regeneration in our personality. The Word transforms us into a testimony.
Transformation of the Seed:
- Bury: Bury yourself in the Word of God. Do a regular and methodical study of God’s Word. As we read, ruminate and recollect the Word of God, God’s truth will transform us into the image of Christ.
- Break: The old identity, ego, entanglements and enticements will break and disappear as we rest in God’s presence.
- Bounty: As we feed on the Word and walk in the light of God’s anointing, the tender leaves will grow into a tree and start bearing a bountiful harvest.
“Dying to the old nature is the process of regeneration into the likeness of Christ.”
Prayer: Dear Jesus, break, mold and transform me to reflect You. Amen.
