Matthew 6:6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
“God rewards those who seek Him diligently.”
The dictionary definition of rewards says that “rewards are incentives, gifts, or benefits given in recognition of an achievement, service, or desired behavior”. Reward is not the payment for fulfilling our duty but an award for going over and above what was required of us.
Our personal prayer is the secret; it is precious, powerful and priceless. The specialty of private prayer behind closed doors is that it is our personal appointment with the Lord. It is our one-on-one intimate communication with God in the unseen spiritual realm. The secret conversation is not done for public recognition but for personal edification and relationship building with the Saviour of our soul. God greatly values our private prayer in the secret prayer closet and rewards our heart’s desires publicly.
Jesus met the man Nathanael, (who later became His disciple) for the first time, and made a very strange statement. “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.” How do you know me?” Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.” (John 1:47-48). Traditionally, Bible scholars believed that the Jews sat under the shade of the fig tree to pray, meditate and intercede with the Lord. Jesus recognized his private prayer time publicly and awarded him a title, “An Israelite without Guile” or “An Honest Man”. For the unassuming hours of prayer and meditation that Nathanael invested, he was rewarded with a title that will be remembered forever.
Our prayer in secret will be rewarded and awarded as our legacy. Our prayers for our families, children and our future generation will never die. We might exit the world but our prayers will still be interceding for our posterity. Prayer time is our divine investment that will bring lasting rewards.

Prayer: Father God, thank you Lord for hearing my cry in private and rewarding me publicly. Amen.
