1 Corinthians 2:4-5 “My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power”.
Influencers for Jesus need not be eloquent or educated – they only need to be anointed to influence their domain. Not so in the world. There is a lot of noise about effective communication skills lately. There is a weird marketing strategy that is propagating people not to start a conversation with “How are you”? as it kills the momentum. It is construed as a waste of time and a fake pleasantry rapport.
However, Paul says that his preaching was not with wise and persuasive words yet he was able to influence several distinct geographical and political regions of the ancient world. He covered Asia Minor, Greece and the wider Mediterranean regions of Arabia and Italy. Paul established somewhere around 14 to 20 churches in these regions and brought thousands to the Lord.
The greatest and most influential evangelistic message was delivered by the uneducated fisherman Peter. His words were not smooth or polished. He called the audience wicked murderers, yet they were convicted in their hearts. This man (Jesus) was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross (Acts 2:23). Revival broke out with those crude and ineloquent preaching! “When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” (Acts 2:37). The anointing made all the difference.
We don’t have to be orators; we only have to be anointed to influence the world.
Influencers for Christ:
- Elite: We don’t have to belong to the elite and exquisite class of people to be influencers for Christ. Jesus only chose fishermen, artisans and the uneducated to be His evangelists.
- Eloquent: We don’t need eloquence and etiquette; we only need a humble heart to preach the gospel.
- Educated: We don’t need degrees behind our name but we need the Defender behind us to influence the world.
We don’t have to be elite, eloquent and educated to lead a colleague and a comrade to Christ.
Prayer: Gracious God, anoint me to preach the Gospel fearlessly and fervently. Amen.
