Acts 4:13 When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.
Influencers can make a positive and transformative impact in the mindset of the listeners even with simple and uncomplicated discourse. Even the insignificant can make a significant influence.
An unnamed servant girl who was taken captive from Israel by the raiders of Aram and served the wife of Naaman was a powerful influencer who changed the trajectory of Naaman. Aram is modern day Syria. This girl was snatched away from her family by the marauders. The Bible does not explicit the traumatic experience that this child would have gone through yet she did not hold anger, animosity or bitterness towards the bandits. Rather she became the influencer who brought healing to the incurable leprosy to the Commander-in-Chief of Aram, Naaman. She said to her mistress, “If only my master would see the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy.” (2 Kings 5:3). Her simple words of wisdom took the violent warrior to Elisha, the prophet in Israel. The Lord God of Israel healed his decaying body and his flesh was restored like that of a young man. This girl was a slave – vulnerable and marginalized. She was away from the safety and comfort of her home, but she chose to be an influencer.
Influencers do not need significance or special position or power to be influential. Mother Teresa was a frail and tiny woman who influenced the world with her generosity and kindness. She said, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” “We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.” If we all do our part to shine for Christ, we would turn the world right side up. Every bit counts!
Influencers for Christ:
- Special: Influencers don’t need special position, power or prestige to impact others.
- Significant: Significance is to help others see the light.
- Simple: Influencers don’t need flamboyant language. Truth is simple.
We don’t have to be special to be significant.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, make me an influencer who can impact and transform lives. Amen.
