Daniel 2:18-19 Daniel urged them to plead for mercy from the God of heaven concerning this mystery, so that he and his friends might not be executed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.During the night the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision. Then Daniel praised the God of heaven .
Early church tradition tells us James, the half-brother of Jesus, spent so much time kneeling in prayer that his knees became thick, leathery, and calloused, like the knees of a camel in the desert. The young man Daniel had thick, leathery and calloused knees like that of an old camel!
A crisis calls for more prayer. Daniel urged his friends to go on their knees all night to pray for divine revelation. The Lord not only revealed the king’s dream but also gave Daniel the interpretation. Daniel was a perfect epitome of a praying man. Daniel had a very disciplined prayer life but when catastrophe struck, he prayed more. The decree from the king that anyone who prays to any god or man, for the next 30 days, shall be thrown into the lions’ den – did not stop Daniel from praying. Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before (Daniel 6:10). Nothing could hinder Daniel’s prayer routine. His calloused knees even prayed in the Lion’s den and turned the ferocious hungry lions into faint pussy cats. The rocky floor of the den was his prayer closet for the all-night prayer!
Daniel’s calloused knees teach us to pray more in the crisis and pray until we receive the answer.
Camel’s Knees:
- Wisdom: A praying man/woman grows in wisdom.
- Well-Known: Praying man/woman accentuates the name of the Lord. “I issue a decree that in every part of my kingdom people must fear and reverence the God of Daniel” (vs 26).
- Winner: Fervent prayer makes us winners for Christ.
The disciplined prayer life and the calloused old camel’s knees of Daniel made him wise and prosperous.
Prayer: Father God, I commit to pray without ceasing, pray all night until I receive the answer. Make my knees like the Old Camel’s Knees. Amen.
