Habakkuk 3:3a-4 His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of His praise. His splendor was like the sunrise; rays flashed from His hand, where His power was hidden.
Almost all life on earth depends on solar energy to thrive. Solar energy is the light and heat from the sun that can be converted into electricity and useful heat. Plants, algae, bacteria, animals and humans use solar energy directly or indirectly. If the sun decides to turn off, in a few days the earth’s temperature would drop and, in a week, would be well below freezing point −17°C. Hence the sun is absolutely necessary for the solar system.
This explains the analogy that the splendor and might of God is like the sunrise. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows (James 1:17). Everything we have is from Him – everything means everything. Everything that we can see, feel and touch and more importantly the things that we can’t see but enjoy every day. God does not charge us for the oxygen we breathe during our time on earth nor does He send us a bill for the solar energy that gives life to all living creatures. During our short stay on earth, God gave us everything free of cost. It is only because we left the Garden, that God had created for us, that we pay for the food we eat, electricity we use and the water we drink!
A man who never forgot to give glory to God for His provision was David. At the fag end of his life, the King of Israel prayed a profound prayer to the King of kings, the Giver of all Gifts – “Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand” (1 Chronicles 29:14).
Wisdom, Wealth and Well-being are hidden in His hands.
Hidden Power:
- Wisdom: He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning (Daniel 2:21).
- Wealth: Wealth and honor come from You; You are the ruler of all things (1 Chronicles 29:12).
- Well-Being: I will make peace your governor and well-being your ruler (Isaiah 60:17).
Every good and perfect gift is hidden in His hand.
Prayer: God my Father, you are my source and the solar energy of my soul. Amen.
