Proverbs 14:8 The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways, but the folly of fools is deception.
“Cautious Whispers” is a figurative and poetic expression that suggests carefully chosen words rather than impulsive or reckless speech. Be cautious about who you share your burdens with – the apathetic, careless and unconcerned will despise you.
Prudence teaches us to act wisely and respond thoughtfully. Prudence makes a man successful in all his ways as prudence is the wisdom to look ahead, plan carefully and respond sensibly – understanding the consequences. A foolish man is blinded with his own self-deception, arrogance and ignorance. David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him. (1 Samuel 18:14). Prudence was the secret to David’s success. Prudence is not a self-acquired skill that is taught in universities. We are taught divine wisdom, understanding and prudence in the School of the Holy Spirit. Our prayer discipline and regular attendance in the prayer closet makes us wise, knowledgeable and prudent in the Lord. The Lord was with David hence He behaved wisely in the assignments that were entrusted to him.
King Saul was intimidated by the budding warrior David, so Saul sent him away and appointed him commander over 1,000 men, and David faithfully led his troops into battle. (1 Samuel 18:13). David handled the promotion and power wisely and prudently. David was faithful to the tasks entrusted to him and used his privileges responsibly. Prudence paved the way for David’s promotion—from commander over a thousand men to king of Israel. Prudence teaches us to give thought to our ways and walk humbly before our God.
Cautious Whispers:
- Faithful: Faithfulness and integrity are the road to elevation. “Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men” (Proverbs 22:29).
- Fervent: The fervent will never be unnoticed. Passionate performance attracts promotion.
- Fearful: Fearful service will be honoured by the Lord. David acted with reverential fear in all that was assigned to him. He did not misuse his position. Divine wisdom teaches us the reverential fear of God and the solemn awareness that the watchful eyes of God are on us 24/7.
Prudence paves the way to success.
Prayer: Lord of the Heavenly Hosts, help me to walk in reverential fear and prudence before you. Amen.
