Proverbs 13:16 “All who are prudent act with knowledge, but fools expose their folly”.
“Cautious Whispers” is a figurative and poetic expression that suggests carefully chosen words rather than impulsive or reckless speech. Be cautious about who you share your burdens with – the apathetic, careless and unconcerned will despise you.
The prudent respond knowledgeably and wisely. A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver (Proverbs 25:11). When Jesus was arrested, He refused to speak to Herod but He gave succinct answers to Pontius Pilate. Jesus refused to talk to the hardhearted Herod who had rejected the truth. “Herod was greatly pleased because for a long time he had wanted to see him. From what he had heard about Him, he was hoping to see Him perform some sign” (Luke 23:8). Herod had a nickname “the fox” (Luke 13:32), as he was cunning, full of deceit and a destructive force to the vulnerable. He played petty politics and was boasting in false authority.
Pilate questioned Jesus out of curiosity not craftiness. Hence, Jesus chose to respond to Pontius Pilate. Jesus spoke to Pilate with regal dignity and quiet authority.Jesus inspired Pilate by talking to him about the indescribable, indestructible and incredible kingdom of God. Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.” “You are a king, then!” said Pilate (John 18:36-37). Pilate realized the supremacy and authority in King Jesus and tried his best to release him but when he failed, he washed his hands of innocent blood.
Jesus has taught us “Do not give that which is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, for they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces” (Matthew 7:6). Fools are those who have hardened their hearts to the truth. Don’t get into vain arguments, empty philosophies or human traditions with them. Don’t throw the truth of God’s word before foolish swine.
Cautious Whispers:
- Silent: Remain silent before arrogant calloused revilers.
- Succinct: Answer succinctly. There is sin in multiplicity of words.
- Sincere: Be sincere in what you say. Don’t say anything that you don’t mean.
Prudence responds knowledgeably.
Prayer: Dear Holy Spirit, teach me and coach me to respond prudently. Amen.
