Psalm 119:164 Seven times a day I praise you for your righteous laws.

Habit formation is the psychological and neurological process by which behaviors become habits through repetition. Most Christian and Jewish scholars believe that King David wrote Psalm 119:164. The psalmist had developed a habit of praising the Lord seven times. To stop and take a praise break seven times would require discipline and time management. Disciplined lifestyle always attracts divine rewards.

Developing a habit to stop every 2 hours for few minutes from 8am to 8pm will develop the habit of praising the Lord seven times. Take 7 praise-breaks – 8am, 10am, 12 noon, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm and 8pm. We can stop for few seconds or minutes during our busy day and praise God.

There are seven different reasons to praise the Lord for His righteous laws, rules, judgements or ordinances. The core of God’s mandate or rulebook the Bible is “love”. The love of God is like the depth of the ocean that cannot be measured. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ (Ephesians 3:17-18). The foundation of the gospel is “Love”; not human love but God’s love. Human love is conditional but the love of God is unconditional. God’s love for us does not change. God’s love cannot be earned; it can only be received. It is a straight line irrespective of what we have done. Our good deeds do not increase His love nor does our failures diminish His love.

God’s righteous law gives us the right to receive this love irrespective of the mistakes, rebellion and failures. It was His love that found us. We did not find God, God found us because He loved us unconditionally.

Eight-2-Eight Praise-Breaks:

  1. Unassuming: God’s love has no strings attached. He does not love us more when we are disciplined and devoted. Obedience increases favour not God’s love.
  2. Unparallel: God’s love is unparallel. It cannot be compared to the love of a mother, spouse or the kindest human being on earth.
  3. Unconditional: God’s love is unconditional unlike human love.

Prayer: Father God, I will discipline myself to praise you 7 times every day. Thank you for your unconditional love. Amen.
