20 October 2026 – Eagle’s Wings – Part 6

Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God”.

Eagles do not waste energy by constantly flapping their wings. They sit quietly on a high tree or cliff for days. They wait patiently for invisible warm air currents, called thermals, to rise from the earth. Eagles don’t waste energy flying aimlessly; they wait patiently for the right wind, then rise on it to soar.

“Waiting” is not an option but “waiting patiently” is a spiritual discipline. We wait for summer during the cold months of winter and for flowers to bloom in spring. We wait in the traffic to reach out destination and wait in the doctor’s office helplessly. We don’t choose to wait, waiting is unavoidable. However, how we wait will forge our character. We can wait flapping and fluttering our wings impatiently or we can choose to wait like the eagle that sits quietly on a high place for the appropriate time.

Jesus said, “And behold, I send the promise of My Father upon you. But wait in the city of Jerusalem until you are filled with power from on high.”  (Luke 24:49). Waiting for the Lord to fulfil His promise clothed the early apostles with power. They were filled and were overflowing with the anointing that bulldozed yokes of bondage, slavery and fear. Like eagles that wait on mountain cliffs for days watching for prey or for updrafts to give them the lift to soar effortlessly, we must develop the virtue of patience to wait on the Lord.

Waiting on the Lord is a powerful spiritual exercise. While we wait, we must worship instead of whining; we must watch and pray instead of wallowing in self-pity and we must develop the winning attitude by meditating on God’s Word.

Calm in the Storm:

  1. Worship: Choose to worship while you wait.  Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield (Psalm 33:20).
  2. Watch: Choose to watch and pray while you wait. “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation (Matthew 26:41).
  3. Win: Choose the right attitude to wait for God’s time. As the thermal currents lift the eagle into great heights, waiting patiently develops the winning attitude.

Stay calm, be still and wait on the Lord.

Prayer: Dearest Holy Spirit, I will worship, watch and pray and win by waiting patiently for you. Amen.
