07 October 2020 – Pick Your Battles – Part 2

Exodus 12:12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the Lord.

Moses was plunged into a battle with the most powerful political power of his time. He tried to give excuses and wriggle out but God said, “I will be with you (Exodus 3:12) and He performed signs and wonders through Moses. Pharaoh was the Hitler or Sadam Hussain of his time.  He was immeasurably cruel, brutal and callous. He crushed the morale and squeezed the strength of the Hebrews to obliterate them. This battle was too fierce and ferocious for Moses or the slaves as they were neither equipped or armed. God sent Moses into an army of chariots and chivalry with just a staff in his hands. There were ten plague that was sent to Egypt to humble the Pharaoh but the crescendo of the battle was the “Passover.”   .

The Lord sent Moses to confront the Pharaoh with these words, I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth (Exodus 9:16). There are “passover battles” wherein our involvement would be to listen, observe and watch. Our involvement would be limited to watch the Lord fighting the battle for us. Our contribution would be to just sit back in the safety of His sanctuary to watch the victory. These are battles that would tremendously strengthen our faith and stabilize our walk with Him.

When the enemy is too powerful, ferocious and ruthless; when the pressure is overwhelming and craftiness is unmanageable, just listen to His commandments, observe His direction and overcome the enemy:

1.     Obey: Exodus 12:13 The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you. Apply the blood of Jesus the lamb over the doorpost of your mind, manor and money. The only protection when we face battles that are beyond our control is the ‘blood of Jesus’. We can remain safe behind the sanctuary, sealed by His blood.

2.     Observe: Exodus 12:15 Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. Leaven symbolises sin. Observing the tradition of unleavened bread denotes a sanctified life. As a preparation for the victory, the Israelites were to get rid of all the leaven from their homes. If we want victory over unbreakable addictions,  indestructible curses and indissoluble sinful nature, we must humble ourselves in fasting and prayer. The Israelites were further commanded to have unleavened bread for 21 days when they observed the “Feast of the Unleavened Bread” as repetition  forms and changes habits and patterns.

3.     Over: The judgement passed over the homes that had the blood of the lamb. The pathway to victory and vindication is to remain under the blood of the lamb. Violence and verbal abuse of the enemy is not going to bring justice, only the blood of the lamb over our mind and mouth will. If we want the ‘passover victory’ over our problems, we must remain unswerving with poignant babbles. Remain under the blood and overcome the battle.

The battle was not between Pharaoh and Moses, it was between the Pharaoh and the Lord God Almighty. Similarly, those who oppose you, oppose God and not you. Our God knows no defeat!

Exodus 12:28 Then the people of Israel went and did so; as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did.
