07 June 2023 – The Hand of the Lord – Part 4

Psalm 118:15 Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous: “The LORD’s right hand has done mighty things!”

The ‘right hand of the Lord’ is mentioned about 132 times in the Bible and it is a metaphor for the omnipotence of the Lord. For about 90% of people, the right hand is the dominant one. The dominant hand is the more preferred hand for fine motor skills such as writing, brushing, cleaning or catching a ball. While 90% of the population is right handed, under 1% is ambidextrous (able to use their right or left hands equally). God Almighty is not right handed. This is not the meaning behind “The LORD’s right hand has done mighty things!”, He is ambidextrous! The phrase, ‘the right hand of God’ signifies the omnipotent power of God over our enemies and our circumstances. The right hand of God indicates that the power of God is undefeatable and indomitable.

Moses partnered with the mighty right hand of the Lord and stood bold and strong against the most powerful force on earth, the Pharaoh. To hold the right hand of the Lord, Moses would have used the left hand or the less dominant hand. God does not want our strength or skills (Psalms 137:5). He wants our weakness to be united with His strength. Then, the weak can say ‘I am strong’. It is only because the hand of Moses was united with the right hand of God that he was able to perform mighty miracles. Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky so that hail will fall all over Egypt (Exodus 9:22). When we partner with the righteous right hand of God, signs, wonders and miracles will follow.

Partner with the right hand of God:

1.     Saves: The right hand of God saves us from troubles and turmoil. Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven. With the saving strength of His right hand (Psalm 20:6). Surrender your weakness, inabilities and limitations and symbolically stretch your weak or less dominant hand and partner with God’s unconquerable right hand.  He is our Saviour.

2.     Strengthens: Fear makes us weak but partnering with the righteous right hand of God strengthens us.  So do not Fear, for I am with You; do not be dismayed, for I am Your God. I Will Strengthen You and Help You; I Will Uphold You with My Righteous Right Hand (Isaiah 41:10). When you are afraid, reach out to God’s right hand and clutch it tightly.

3.     Shatters: Right hand of the Lord brings favour to His children but shatters the enemy.  “Your right hand, O Lord, is majestic in power, Your right hand, O Lord, shatters the enemy (Exodus 15:6).

God does not need our strength. Our weakness turns into strength when we partner with the right hand of God.

Psalm 16:8 I have set the LORD always before me. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

Prayer: Father God, I will walk hand-in-hand with my less dominant, weak left hand in partnership with your right hand. Your right hand will do mighty miracles in my life. Amen.
