11 December 2023 – Thief – Part 2

2 Corinthians 10:5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Demonic thieves steal our thoughts to distract and destroy our destiny. The devil or his demonic invaders do not know our thoughts; they can only insinuate, intimidate and incite disturbing thoughts. Their job is to inject dread and dissuasion in our mind and they wait and watch for our reaction. As we react to the fearful thoughts, they will fan the fire of the ugly thoughts and cause damage to our soul.

A study says that 96% of the people talk to themselves (internal thoughts) in every situation. Internal dialogue can have positive and negative effects. Hence it is important to watch our thoughts as internal dialogue is an integral part of our decision making. The demonic thieves inject fret and forebodings and take us on a tangent of imagery fear or they would inflict us with guilt and shame and instill low self-esteem. They would try to infect us with envy or pride and taint us with conceit. The goal of the thought thieves is to get to our heart through our mind.  ‘Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Watch your words, for they become actions. Watch your actions, for they become habits and habits become your character.’

Hence it is important to demolish arguments and every pretension that is contrary to the Word of God. We spend hours having internal dialogue or arguments with a colleague or a family member that might never eventuate in real life but these are self-destructive thoughts. There are also thoughts justifying and excusing us for missing the mark. These do not lead to repentance but to repetition of sins. Therefore it is very important to analyze our thoughts to ascertain that our thinking aligns with God’s Word.

Counter attack the diabolical thought thieves:

1.     Condemnation: Capture the condemning thoughts that belittle, batter and barrage. Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). When the devil shames you with your past mistakes, slay him and his derogatory remarks with the Word of God.

2.     Confrontation: Don’t allow the intruding defamatory thoughts to take you on a roller coaster. Confront unholy and unwholesome thoughts and take them captive. Confess and expose it to the Lord in prayer and replace debasing thoughts with God’s promises. Counter attack them with the name of Jesus.

3.     Command: Command your soul to be obedient to God’s Word and His voice. Do not be led by what you feel. Validate your thoughts under the light of God’s Word before they become words and action. Only entertain thoughts that Jesus would be proud of and reject and uproot any thought that would destruct and damage your character.

Watch out for the demonic thieves who steal your thoughts and misdirect your life.

Proverbs 4:23-24 23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips.

Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, help me to be alert and agile to confront and drive out any condemning, distracting and defaming demonic thoughts. Amen.
