Luke 22:61 At that moment the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Suddenly, the Lord’s words flashed through Peter’s mind: “Before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me.”
“Thoughts are a commodity in the spiritual realm.”
Unspoken words are non-verbal communication such as thoughts, feelings, or messages conveyed through non-verbal cues like body language, facial expressions and silence. Non-verbal conversations will touch the hearts of the wayward souls and convict, correct and awaken their conscience.
Jesus warned Peter about the impending temptation during the darkest phase of His arrest, crucifixion and death. “Simon, Simon, satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” (Luke 22:31-32). In the sifting process, Peter fell three times into the same sin of denying Jesus. Fear gripped his heart and his courage melted away as they arrested his Hero and his Master. Peter could not understand the sequence of events as the Holy Spirit had not been poured out as yet. However, Jesus delivered the most profound sermon of all when His eyes captured the sheepish eyes of Peter after he denied Jesus – his Master and Teacher. The non-verbal conversation convicted the heart of Peter and he went outside and wept bitterly (Luke 22:62).
Are you praying and waiting for a family member or a friend to turn back to Jesus? Prayer for the wayward is the most powerful sermon we can preach. Our non-verbal communication of love, grace and mercy will turn their hearts to Christ Jesus. Condemnation, judgement and anger will push them away. Non-verbal sermons of love are the most powerful sermons that bring conviction. Silence speaks louder than words.
The Power of non-verbal sermons:
- Conviction: It was the prayer of Jesus that positioned Peter in the courtyard area of the Praetorium and captured His eyes. Our prayers will position our dear ones to capture the eyes of God.
- Correction: Elaborate condemning sermons, long lectures or nagging is not going to turn their hearts. Silent gesture of love will bring correction.
- Communion: Our prayers will turn the hearts of the wayward to commune with the Living God.
Preach silent non-verbal sermons.
Prayer: Dearest Saviour, Teach me to preach powerful non-verbal sermons like you. Amen.
