Acts 27:23-24Last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand trial before Caesar; and God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you.’
“Grace” is unmerited favour and the love of God towards us. Grace showers us with blessings that we are not worthy to receive and that grace and favour is contagious.
The favour of God and His graciousness cannot be hidden. Grace is a visible divine advantage and a shield of protection around the children of God. “Surely, LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favour as with a shield” (Psalm 5:12). The grace of God encircles us with an impenetrable protection and unusual favour that is communicable.
Paul was taken as a prisoner to Rome. The ship that he and the 276 prisoners were travelling in, got caught in a hurricane. However, the angel of the Lord assured him that the Lord will not only save him but those who are with him on that journey. The grace of God that protected Paul and His favour that blessed Paul was extended to those with him.
God’s Grace and Unusual Favour:
- Unusual Kindness: The favour of God attracts the unusual kindness of man. Once safely on shore, we found out that the island was called Malta. The islanders showed us unusual kindness (Acts 28:1-2). God will cause the hearts of leaders and people in authority to show us unusual kindness.
- Unusual Happenings: The favour of God was the shield that protected Paul from the venom of the viper. The venom that kills people instantaneously could not penetrate into the bloodstream of Paul. The people expected him to swell up or suddenly fall dead; but after waiting a long time and seeing nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and said he was a god (vs 6).
- Unusual Honour: The grace of God will attract unusual honour. They honored us in many ways; and when we were ready to sail, they furnished us with the supplies we needed (vs 10). God’s grace attracts unusual honour.
“The grace of God attracts unusual kindness, astounding miracles and honour”.
Prayer: Holy Father, I need your grace that endows me with unusual kindness, miracles and honour. Amen
