Genesis 1:11 Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.”
Seeds are God’s biological design for plant reproduction, survival, and propagation. It is a dormant nutrition-rich package with energy to proliferate. The richness of His glorious handiwork of God’s creation reveals that every plant and tree bears seed according to its own kind. A mango seed does not produce papaya nor does a coconut produce apples. They produce after their own kind.
Seeds are a perfect analogy to a) the Word of God, b) faith, c) the kingdom of God, d) righteousness e) wickedness, f) the flesh and g) the spirit. Seed indicates germination, beginning and reproduction of what we store and sow.
Jesus in His parable of the Sower refers to the Word of God that is packed with life, nutrition and vigor. The nature and the characteristics of the seed is the same however, its germination and growth would depend on the kind of soil it lands on. The soil being the heart is the environment in which this seed will either grow or wilt. Good soil/(heart) receives the seed and sprouts whereas haughty and rebellious hearts crush, choke or stunt growth.
The seed contains various aspects – it has the power to coach, correct and change; teach, train and transform us. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness (1 Timothy 3:16-17). However, the soil of the heart that receives it must then meditate on the Word and draw the sap and strength from the Word. Meditating on the word germinates the seed and ruminating on the Word brings forth fruit.
The Seed of the Word of God:
- Teach: A humble heart is teachable and correctable however a proud heart rejects the Word.
- Train: A hungry heart is trainable and coachable but a person who is full of himself chokes the Word of God.
- Transform: The knowledge of God’s Word in the head must sink down to the heart for the seed to germinate, grow and transform a person.
“A seed has a miniature plant inside, similarly, the Word of God has God’s nature stored in it.”
Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, I humble myself to be coached, corrected, trained, taught and transformed by Your Word. Amen.
