14 August 2026 – Camel’s Knees – Part 2

Colossians 1:9a For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. 

Early church tradition tells us James, the half-brother of Jesus, spent so much time kneeling in prayer that his knees became thick, leathery, and calloused, like the knees of a camel in the desert. Paul the Apostle also had Old Camel’s Knees that was calloused by ceaseless prayers.

The Apostle Paul did not visit the church of Colosse but His fervent prayers impacted them greatly. Paul’s disciple Epaphras, was the evangelist that led them to the light of Jesus Christ. Epaphras, was touched, converted and trained during Paul’s ministry in Ephesus and he carried the good news to Colosse. When Paul heard about the revival in Colosse, he prayed for them without ceasing.

Sincere prayers have no boundaries, need no visa or expensive flight tickets to travel across continents. “Prayers have no boundaries. They can leap miles and continents and be translated instantly into any language” – Billy Graham. We can pray for people whom we have never met and countries that we have never visited. Our sincere and ceaseless prayers will transcend physical limitation and human constraints and transform those we are praying for. We can demolish spiritual brick walls on the other side of the world through fervent prayers in our prayer closet.   

Paul goes on to say, “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful” (Colossians 4:2). Intentional devotion in prayer breaks barriers, demolishes demonic strongholds and sets the captives free. Earnest dedication in prayer paves in-roads into countries and continents that our feet have never touched. Resolute determination to see breakthroughs will make our knees calloused, leathery and thick like a camel’s knees.     

Camel’s Knees:  

1. Desire: A desire to pray must be fueled by discipline. A desire without discipline is only a fantasy.    
2. Devotion: Sincere devotion to pray has no option/excuses to miss the prayer routine.
3. Determination: The prayer life of a person determined to see answers, sets captives free, and releases those in darkness, will only grow in depth and duration.

Our prayers can penetrate stubborn hearts, break stiff-necks, and tear down demonic strongholds if we are determined to callous our knees in prayer.

Prayer: Dearest Holy Spirit, please discipline my desire to pray into a burning devotion and resolute determination. Make my knees like the Old Camel’s Knees. Amen.
