Ephesians 6:18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
Early church tradition tells us James, the half-brother of Jesus, spent so much time kneeling in prayer that his knees became thick, leathery, and calloused, like the knees of a camel in the desert. The calloused knees of a praying man/woman sanctified the thoughts, words and deeds. Billy Graham, the most influential Christian evangelists of the 20th century, was found kneeling in the prayer indentations of John Wesley.
Billy was on a study tour to England in 1940 with the Wheaton Bible College and he almost missed the bus as he knelt down to pray in the patches on the carpet of John Westley’s room. He prayed, for another revival, “Oh Lord, do it again”. And the Lord heard him. Over 60 years Billy Graham preached to around 215 million people across 185 countries! His simple message about the Cross, the Blood and salvation drew millions to Jesus.
A praying mother, Susanna Wesley calloused her knees in prayer, praying for her 19 children. All her children served the Lord and John and Charles Wesley were the founders of the Methodist Movement. The fire of Susanna Wesley’s prayers did not end with shaping and influencing her own family. Nearly two centuries after John Wesley’s death, that same flame touched the heart of a young man Billy Graham, who knelt in the prayer-worn patch beside Wesley’s bed. Susanna’s prayer anointing is still burning bright in the hearts of the millions who were touched by Billy’s ministry. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Dr. Rick Warren, and Leighton Ford are among the few renowned ministers whose lives were transformed through Billy Graham’s ministry.
The fire of God that arises from the prayer patches in our prayer closet does not stop with our family, our generation or our country. Our prayer anointing cannot be quenched until the return of Jesus. Your prayer will outlive you.
