Colossians 3:2-3 “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”
A rapid test (often called a RAT or lateral flow test) is a fast medical diagnostic tool that detects the presence of specific viral proteins in 10 to 20 minutes.
If an unexpected news or an unforeseen challenge is a test of trust. If we are pushed into anxiety and desperation, we have failed the test of trust. “If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small” (Proverbs 24:10). Disciplining our thoughts to be calm and keeping our emotions under control in crucible circumstances will not only help us pass the rapid test of trust but will be followed by spiritual promotion.
“Live with an eternal focus, not an earthly fixation.”
Peter and the disciples were enjoying the company and the popularity of Jesus for over three years. The crowds were thronging around Jesus, and they witnessed multiple miracles every day. They were becoming famous and the most sought-after ministry in the town. The crowds that went to the priest for prayer were now queuing up to Jesus (Matthew 4:25). At the pinnacle of His ministry Jesus announced His departure (Matthew 16:21). When Peter heard about the suffering that Jesus was going to go through, and that He was going to submit Himself to the crucible death on the cross, he took Him aside and started to rebuke Him.
Peter’s mind was fixated on the earthly pomp, power and popularity. Jesus reprimanded Peter. Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns” (Matthew 16:23). Jesus reproved Peter as a “dangerous trap”, a “stumbling block” and an “hindrance” to the eternal plan of God.
Eternal vs Earthly Focus:
- Trap: Being overwhelmed by financial needs is a trap. Trust in the eternal source, not the earthly means.
- Turmoil: Worrying about the future/children is a stumbling block to your growth and progress.
- Trouble: If we are troubled about anything, we have failed the test of trust.
Pass the divine rapid test of trust.
Prayer: Father God, deliver me from the worries of the world that hinders my divine focus and progress. Amen.
