Galatians 6:9 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Fire has the ability to change the temperature of an environment. When a fire has a lot of oxygen and high-quality fuel, it burns more efficiently, producing a much hotter flame. This is another accurate analogy for the godly passion that can alter the thermostat of a cold and hostile environment.
The Apostle Paul at the Island of Patmos had just escaped the raging sea and a ravenous storm. All the prisoners on board the ship and the crew had not eaten for days as they were caught in a devouring darkness and ghastly tempest. After an extremely tiring journey we see Paul gathering sticks to build the bonfire. The passionate preacher did not sit back and warm himself in the fire but picked up sticks to build the heat for the other shivering prisoners. He actively involved himself in doing good even when he himself was fatigued. The passion to serve and share did not quench even after an exhausting escape. Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and, as he put it on the fire, a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself on his hand (Acts 28:3). His unquenchable enthusiasm was attacked by a vicious viper. But Paul shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects (vs 5 & 9). Then he went on to minister to the father of the Chief of the Island who was suffering from fever and dysentery. The Lord blessed his continuous fervor to preach and advance the gospel.
When we endeavour to serve selflessly, preach passionately and minister generously, we will be attacked. Overcome by shaking the snake into the anointing fire of the Holy Ghost.
Flame your Fire into flames:
- Sting: When stung by a snake don’t run for support of humans, shake it into the fire by sitting under the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
- Slander: When slandered for doing what is good, allow the Holy fire to burn offence.
- Suppress: When suppressed, sing and break the depression.
Flames of Fire from heaven will burn down the poison of the sting, slander and suppression.
Prayer: Holy Father, give me a fresh anointing to destroy discouragement that I may never get weary in doing good. Amen.
