13 May 2026 – Success Factors – Part 7

1 Peter 5:5-6 All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

Our attitude is crucial for our growth and success. Humility is the key ingredient for lasting success. It fosters growth, learning, and strong relationships. The humble are approachable, teachable and respectable. Humility brings honour and is a key success factor for consistent and long-lasting growth.

What is humility? Humility is the fear of the LORD; its wages are riches and honor and life (Proverbs 22:4). Humility is not timidity that cowers at challenges and accepts injustice. Humility is to walk righteously in the knowledge of God’s will, with discernment, prudence, wisdom and spiritual understanding. The words, actions and reactions of the humble will be respectable and bold yet, gracious and seasoned with love.

Joseph remained under the mighty hand of God until he was prepared for the promotion. We see that “the Lord was with Joseph” (Genesis 39:2, 21) yet he was falsely accused, unjustly incarcerated and ignored by friends. He was chastised instead of being crowned with honour and pruned instead of praised. These were God-permitted disciplines that shaped him into a humble and honourable leader.

“Every challenge on the earth must first be won in the spiritual realm before it manifests in the natural realm”.

Don’t be disappointed if your elevation is delayed. When we are ignored instead of honoured, the Lord is teaching us the important “success factor” to remain humble under His mighty hand, that he may lift, promote and honour us in due time. Cultivating humility while growing knowledge, skillsets and wisdom is inevitably crucial for our success and significance in every sphere of life. Humility is an honourable cloak.

Success Factors:

  1. Humble: Humility is to determine to see through God’s lens and to choose to respond and reciprocate like Jesus. Those who don’t humble themselves will be humiliated.
  2. Holistic: Humility grows a person holistically as they are teachable, amicable and open-minded. The big-headed and arrogant will remain stunted.
  3. Honour: Those who humble themselves will be exalted (Matthew 23:12b).

“The wages of humility are riches and honor and life”.

Prayer: Dearest Holy Spirit, give me the spiritual awareness and understanding to remain humble under Your mighty hand. Amen.
