Colossians 1:9 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.
“Spiritual Understanding” is looking at a situation through the eyes of God and understanding the ways of God through His Word. It is the enlightenment of the soul to see a difficulty as an opportunity, humiliation as honour and the prison as a pulpit.
Enlightened by spiritual understanding, David was able to challenge the ginormous giant Goliath and overthrow him. Spiritual Understanding taught David the truth that the battle was not his but the Lords’. Enthused by divine understanding and wisdom, the apostles rejoiced when they were arrested, as they counted it worthy to suffer disgrace for the Name of Jesus. Empowered and encouraged by the knowledge of God’s will, Paul and Silas were able to pray and praise in the prison even after they heard God’s voice, sailed to Macedonia and preached the gospel. Yet, they were mercilessly beaten and imprisoned; however, they understood that severe opposition was a confirmation that they were in the center of God’s will.
The Lord God will reveal His will to us through His Word. Which job should I take? Where should I settle? or What should I do next? God’s will would come to us as a promise from His Word. As we pour praise and worship over the Word, God will unpack His will and show us the way. God’s Word and worship will empower us to ‘work the Word’ and exercise it. Working the Word is to act on God’s Word. David openly challenged Goliath; the early apostles boldly preached even after being incarcerated and Paul celebrated imprisonment with his worship.
Spiritual Understanding:
- Enlightens: Spiritual Understanding enlightens us with God’s Word. “God’s will is God’s Word”. Take your problem to the Lord and wait to hear from Him.
- Empowers: Spiritual Understanding empowers us with boldness. Once we hear through the impression in our heart, we will be empowered with supernatural strength to persevere.
- Encourages: Spiritual Understanding will encourage us to respond to challenges with confidence, calmness and courage.
“Spiritual understanding will empower us to praise instead of panic”.
Prayer: Dear Holy Spirit, give me the understanding to turn the oppositions into opportunities. Amen
