27 May 2026 – Grace & Mercy – Part 7

Luke 15:22-23 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate.

“Grace” is the unmerited favour that showers us with blessings, rights and privileges that we are not worthy of. The amazing grace of God goes beyond human understanding, blessing us beyond measure and favouring us without limits.

The parable of the prodigal son is the perfect example of “amazing grace”. The son who rebelled, rejected the love of the father and ran away from the safety radius of the father’s protection was received back with love. He was accepted into the family not as a slave but a son. When the prodigal returned, the father did not give him a cold shoulder, reprimand him before the servants and permitted him to stay in the servant’s quarters. A normal earthly father would have taught him a lesson through humiliation at least for a period of time. He would have given him a long lecture and got the prodigal to sign an agreement that he will not violate the rules or the rights of the home. Not so, with the heavenly Father in this parable. So he got up and went to his father. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him (Luke 15:20). This is amazing grace.

While grace is God’s unmerited favour that we are not eligible for but amazing grace is the grandeur of the limitless favour of God that blesses beyond measure. The Father gave the prodigal the best robe, ring and sandals for his feet.

Amazing Grace:

  1. Robe: Our heavenly Father clothed us with the robe of righteousness when we ran back to him repenting for our silly mistakes and stupor errors.
  2. Ring: Our Father accepted us back with a ring of honour as His son/daughter.
  3. Rights: He gave us sandals for our feet and gave us back the birthrights to be ministers of the gospel of peace.

“We bask under His Amazing Grace”.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I can never thank you enough for this amazing grace that saved a wretch like me. Amen
