John 8:12 Jesus declared, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life”.
The sun is the source of energy to the planet earth. Without sunlight the ecosystem would collapse and the earth would freeze into wasteland. Life on earth would cease to exist. Hence Jesus said, “I am the light of the world” – the source of life. He came to shine His life-giving light into our darkened souls. The spiritual ecosystem will collapse without the Light of the World, Jesus.
Jesus also said, “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). We, the redeemed of the Lord, are reflectors of the life-giving light of Jesus. The moon does not have light of its own. It only reflects the light of the sun. Similarly, we have no light in us, we are reverberators of the Son Jesus Christ. As long as our eyes are fixated on Him, we will radiate Christ-likeness.
It is this life-giving light that separates us from the world and calls us as His chosen generation, royal priesthood and a holy nation. But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9).
The life-giving light of Jesus shining in our hearts cannot be hidden. It will shine as words of wisdom and truth. This glorious light will deliver us from sinful nature, addictions and demonic strongholds, and lead us into freedom and liberty. The Light will draw the lost, broken and hopeless towards us (Isaiah 60:1-3).
Jesus is the Light of the World:
- Wisdom: Wisdom of God will direct our decisions and choices. I saw that wisdom is better than folly, just as light is better than darkness. (Ecclesiastes 2:13).
- Walk: Our walk will be steady and secure as His light shines in our path. “The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day” (Proverbs 4:18). There will be no fear of darkness or uncertainty.
- Words: Our words will be anointed with the truth and life. Light of Jesus proliferates life.
“Be reflectors of the Light of Jesus”.
