Proverbs 22:8 He who sows iniquity will reap sorrow, And the rod of his anger will fail.
“Seeds are God’s biological design for plant reproduction, survival, and propagation.”
Poisonous seeds are seeds that contain toxic compounds which can be harmful to humans and animals if eaten, inhaled or even handled. Rosary Pea Seeds that are bright red in colour with a black spot are very attractive but extremely dangerous. Similarly, evil, toxic and wicked ways are alluring and attractive choices but will bear a harvest of sorrow and result in generational curses.
Seeds of wickedness can be broadly categorized into three – ingratitude to the Lord, injustice to the vulnerable and incongruous choices of cheap pleasures. Idolatry is detestable to the Lord. Horoscope, fortune-telling, sorcery, interpreting omens, and consulting mediums are detestable to the Lord (Jeremiah 2:11). Idolatry is spiritual prostitution which attracts bloodline curses. It defiles posterity and prosperity and corrupts the seed. Likewise, cheating, bribery and calling evil good, and good evil are seeds of unrighteousness that will yield sour fruits. You have plowed iniquity; you have reaped injustice; you have eaten the fruit of lies (Hosea 10:13). Fruit of lies metaphorically means spoilt fruit that can cause gastrointestinal illness. Short-term pleasures sow long term toxic seeds. Evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit are evil seeds.
Anything that trades righteousness, truthfulness, purity, faithfulness and holiness are evil seeds. The evil seeds of the modern world are materialism, perversion and rebellion against the Lord. Addiction to substance, devices and foul habits grow into toxic behaviours. Legalizing abortions, prostitution and civil union have corrupted the land with blood. Affluent lifestyles have removed the fear of the Lord.
The heart is the soil where the seeds grow into a garden. However, if the Gardener of our heart is the Lord Jesus, we will be a well-watered flourishing garden yielding good fruit.
The Seeds of Wickedness:
- Idolatry: Obsession to jobs, career, children and even ministry are futile seeds.
- Injustice: Silence to unethical decisions, discrimination and dishonest ways; bias, bigotry, favoritism; greediness and fraudulence are thorny seeds.
- Imprudence: Imprudence to the ways of righteousness and holiness are evil seeds.
“Seeds of idolatry, injustice and imprudence are seeds of wickedness.”
Prayer: Heavenly Father, make me cautious to the seed of wickedness and teach me to guard the garden of my heart. Amen.
