06 July 2026 – The Seed – Part 5

Leviticus 11:37-38 If a carcass falls on any seeds that are to be planted, they remain clean. But if water has been put on the seed and a carcass falls on it, it is unclean for you.

“Seeds are God’s biological design for plant reproduction, survival, and propagation.”

A good and healthy seed can be contaminated by fungi, virus, parasites and by polluted water or industrial chemicals. Seed can be contaminated by cross-pollination with another variety. In the Kosher diet prescribed in the Old Testament there is an interesting instruction about “contamination of seeds”. The dietary instructions were given to the children of Israel when there were no food regulations or standardization. Although the laws of ceremonial cleansing and dietary restrictions do not apply to the New Testament believers, these chapters are rich in deep spiritual revelations.

When we accept Jesus into our heart the seeds of the nature of Christ are deposited in our heart. The seeds of love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control must be watered by the Word of God to grow and bear fruit. However, the good seeds can be contaminated by parasites and cross-pollination of bad company.

The virus of sin and the fungal infection of unholy habits can corrupt the character. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world (John 15:19). We are in the world but not of the world. There is dead-carcass of dead-deeds all around us but unless the seed is wet the carcass will not contaminate the seed, meaning – “water” facilitates the seed to stick to the carcass and absorb the body fluids from the decomposing tissues.  A friend of the world is the enemy of God (James 4:4). Fellowship with the ungodly will contaminate the godly character. It is important to love everyone without judging them but being yoked with the ungodly will adulterate our character.

Contamination of Seeds:

  1. Company: Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” (1 Corinthians 15:23). Choose your friendships carefully.
  2. Conversations: Stay away from conversations that are derogatory, deceitful, or destructive.
  3. Cross-Contamination: Being yoked with non-believers will contaminate a child of God just as it cross-contaminates the good seed.

“Protect the seeds of Christlikeness in you.”

Prayer: Spirit of Truth, teach me to love people without prejudice but not be contaminated by their ungodliness. Amen.
