Romans 15:4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.
The 52/17 Productivity Study on “desk-time 52 minutes” findings concluded that 10% high performing employees naturally fell into a cycle of working with intense focus for 52 minutes, followed by break. Distraction is the greatest enemy of productivity. Research finding in the University of California concluded that a distraction that triggers a train of thoughts can take people several minutes to fully return back to their task. Nehemiah completed rebuilding the wall in 52 days and then Israel celebrated for an entire month focusing on spiritual revival, reading the Book of the Law, and observing the Feast of Booths (Tabernacles).
Rebuilding broken hearts, habits and holiness require a consistent disciplined routine of 7 weeks. Just as 52 minutes of concentration yields maximum productivity, 52 days of disciplined life resets and rebuilds our life. Nehemiah’s perseverance rebuilt the wall. He refused to be distracted by the mockers, criticizers and intimidators. Nehemiah did not take a break from rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. Nehemiah did an assessment of the extent of the ruin. The walls were broken and the gates were burnt with fire. Then he drafted a plan and brought the people together to start the good work. False prophets could not fool him as his heart was right with the Lord. I realized that God had not sent him, but that he had prophesied against me because Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him (Nehemiah 6:12). He refused to allow any distractions to derail his destiny. The enemy tried to lure him away from repairing the walls, but Nehemiah refused to go (Nehemiah 6:2-3).
People, problems and perils can distract and derail us from our destiny if we do not guard our hearts.
Destiny Distractors:
- Hearts: It is very important to guard our hearts from comments, criticisms and people who can distract our focus and destroy our destiny. Don’t waste time and energy ruminating over their reproach.
- Habits: It only takes one miss to destroy a consistent effort to build a good habit. Persist.
- Holiness: Choose purity over pleasure.
Rebuilding requires undistracted consistent efforts.
Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, help me not to be distracted but build godly and holy habits. Amen.
