Proverbs 25:15 Through patience a ruler can be persuaded, and a gentle tongue can break a bone.
The Way of Holiness is a toll road —it comes at a cost, but the price is worth it! The word holiness in Hebrew is “qādôsh” which means to be separated, consecrated, or dedicated to God. Patience is the natural reaction on the Highway of Holiness.
On the Highroad of Holiness there will be patient perseverance in prayer without panic. Hasty reactions can destroy a life time of investment in seconds. Many destroy their destiny with words before they demolish with their hands. Patience makes us wise but panic blurts out momentary regrettable emotions. Patience is far more precious than gold!
An amazing Christ-like characteristic that was notable and commendable in the life of David was his patience. Though a violent warrior, he was a patient listener to the voice and direction of the Lord. He had a good opportunity to harm his enemy, King Saul who hunted him like an animal. However, when David found King Saul in a vulnerable place, where he could have killed him and hailed as the next king of Israel, David made a poignant declaration to Abishai, “Don’t destroy him! Who can lay a hand on the Lord’s anointed and be guiltless? (1 Samuel 26:9). Patience honours everyone – even the envious and the enemies. David did not find shortcuts to claim the ladder of promotion. He waited patiently in faith for his time.
Don’t lose your patience praying for that dear one who is far away from the Lord. Don’t give up learning, changing and growing. Patience is the hand that unlocks the floodgates of heaven. “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9).
The Highway of Holiness:
- Prioritize: Patience prioritizes values more than wants.
- Peaceful: The fruit of patience is to enjoy joy and peace while waiting. Patience is never flustered about the result but rests peacefully in faith.
- Patience: Patience is the evidence of maturity. Waiting is not a choice but how we wait marks our level of maturity.
The fruit of patience is ripe and red on the Highway of Holiness.
Prayer: Dear Holy Spirit, mature the fruit of patience in me as I wait for my harvest. Amen.
