Exodus 33:15-16 Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?”
After Israel’s catastrophic failure into idolatry, revelry and sexual immorality, Moses pleaded and interceded with the Lord for His presence to go with them. Israel built a golden calf, sacrificed burnt and fellowship offering to the idol, sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry. They broke the very first commandment and ignored the warning of the Lord. Hence the Lord said, I will not go with you, because you are a stiff-necked people and I might destroy you on the way (Exodus 33:3). But Moses interceded with the Lord for the people. He made His petition very clear and refused to move even an inch without God’s presence. Moses knew the secret that it is God’s presence that distinguishes them from the other people on the face of the earth!
To be distinguished in this world and to leave a legacy we need His presence to be with us while we are on the earth. The Lord has promised never to leave us nor forsake us but it is our own conceit and carelessness, wilful sins and stubbornness that separates us from His distinguishing presence. There could be others who are wiser, stronger and more talented than us however, the presence of the Lord with us will lift us up above the people of the world.
When Paul writes to the church in Corinth he says, Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth (1 Corinthians 1:26b). Yet, His presence transforms ordinary people like you and me into extraordinary influencers for Christ Jesus.
Influencers for Christ:
- Demark: God’s presence is the firewall that demarks or draws a line of boundary that no man or demon can intrude.
- Discard: God chooses the discarded and turns them into influencers.
- Distinct: God’s presence distinguishes us and elevates us before the affluent, opulent and excellent.
His presence distinguishes us as influencers.
Prayer: Father God, lead me with your distinguishing presence. Amen.
