2 Samuel 20:16-18 He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor. A wise woman called from the city, “Listen! Listen! Tell Joab to come here so I can speak to him.” He went toward her, and she asked, “Are you Joab?” “I am,” he answered. She said, “Listen to what your servant has to say.” “I’m listening,” he said.
An influencer does not need position, power or prominence to make a positive impact and productive changes in the lives of others. Influencers are leaders without titles.
The was an unnamed wise woman who stopped war, bloodshed and loss of innocent lives in a city of Israel called, Abel Beth Maakah. There was a rebel who revolted against King David and took refuge in the city. Joab, the Commander-in-Chief, laid a siege ramp around the city and was battering the walls to bring it down. But a wise woman spoke to Joab and negotiated a deal with prudence to stop violence. She said, “Long ago they used to say, ‘Get your answer at Abel,’ and that settled it. We are the peaceful and faithful in Israel. You are trying to destroy a city that is a mother in Israel. Why do you want to swallow up the Lord’s inheritance?” (2 Samuel 20:19).
We don’t know the name of this woman. She was not the Queen nor was she the wife of a high ranking official. She is just mentioned as “a wise woman” who gave profound advice and saved the city from destruction.
Words spoken fittingly at the right time are like golden apples on a silver platter. Wise words are more valuable than much gold and many rubies (Proverbs 20:15). Wisdom is better than muscle or manpower!
Influencers for Christ:
- Power: Influencers don’t need power. Their wisdom is the power that penetrates through closed doors and hardened hearts.
- Position: Holding a powerful position does not make a person powerful. You can influence your domain without a name or fame.
- Prominence: The prominent might attract attention however the wise command respect. Wise leadership builds homes, changes cultures and is the light and salt of the earth.
Influencers don’t need power, position or prominence.
Prayer: Spirit of Wisdom, make me wise in all my ways. Amen.
