1 John 5:4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.
The Way of Holiness is a toll road —it comes at a cost, but the price is worth it! The word holiness in Hebrew is “qādôsh” which means to be separated, consecrated, or dedicated to God. The shield of faith is the fortified fire wall of protection on the Highway of Holiness.
There will be no trace of doubt, disbelief or desperation on the Highway of Holiness. This does not mean that when we choose purity over pleasure there will be no trials. Our faith will be tested by the challenges and crisis of life, yet our faith will overcome the worldly chaos. This faith is developed and matured by choosing to please God rather than the easy path of compromise and comfort. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly (Hebrews 11:6). Fragile faith questions God in the storm; fervent faith praises God in the storm and firm faith grows in the storm and soars above the squall.
Paul the Apostle was severely flogged, falsely accused and mercilessly imprisoned for preaching the Gospel. Yet, from the Roman prison he writes a letter to the church in Philippi which is now called the “Epistle of Joy”. The word “joy” appears in the book of Philippians roughly about 16 times! He even rejoices that some are preaching the Gospel out of envy as a result of his imprisonment! But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice (Philippians 1:18). Faith grows on the highway of holiness.
The Highway of Holiness:
- Pleases: Pleasing God is the utmost priority on the highway of holiness and it is impossible to please God without faith.
- Praises: Matured faith praises God in all circumstances – in the prison, in pain and in persecution.
- Presence: Faith draws the presence of the Lord like a shield on the Highway of Holiness.
Faith is the fireproof on the Highway of Holiness.
Prayer: God my Father, help my faith to grow in the difficulties and never become fickle or fragile. Amen.
