18 May 2026 – Spiritual Understanding – Part 5

Colossians 1:9 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.

“Spiritual Understanding” is perceiving the sovereignty of God over the reality of the world. It is looking at a situation through the eyes of God and understanding the ways of God through His Word. Spiritual understanding delivers us from poverty mentality and protects us from prosperity theory.

Eleven out of thirty-nine parables of Jesus were about money, wealth, possession and stewardship. While money is an essential commodity on earth, it has zero eternal value. He taught us to store our treasures in heaven by investing in divine treasures and not on earthly pleasures. This does not mean that we must not have wealth on earth but it accentuates that money should never be our driving force. Work should never dominate worship.

Jesus also emphasized not to worry over earthly needs. Don’t worry about your mortgage, bank rates or fuel prices. Jesus taught us that God is our source, not our shares, securities or stocks.

Spiritual understanding enlightens us that our supply is from heaven according to God’s bank balance and not ours. He will meet all our needs according to His riches stored up for us in glory (Philippians 4:19).

Most importantly, spiritual understanding gives us confidence that times of scarcity, famine and recession is the time of growth for God’s children. In times of disaster, they will not wither; in days of famine, they will enjoy plenty (Psalm 37:19).

Spiritual Understanding:

  1. Shortage: When you hear of scarcity of fuel or shortage of resources, get excited. This is the time of increase and promotion.
  2. Supply: Secondly there are no bottlenecks of supply from The Supplier. The treasury of heaven is not running out of resources and is never too busy to answer our petitions. It is the receiving end that has struggles with demonic blockades and mental limitations. So, check the receiving end.
  3. Steward: Jesus also taught us sound principles of stewardship in order to be blessed with more. Faithfulness in the little, will sanction the increase, promotion and expansion.

“Spiritual understanding gives us financial security”.

Prayer: Father God, You are my source and my supply – I will never be in want. Amen
